40G and 80G Filters

Big Foot Filters are designed to be used as an initial filter on the suction side of a pump using surface water sources. The 40G and 80G, rated at 40 gallons per minute and 80 gallons per minute respectively, are made of heavy duty PVC plastic. Extra large intake areas will require little or no service during the pumping season and will give many years of trouble free service, even under the most severe conditions.

40G-Filter 80G-Filter

The 40G uses the 6″ diameter screen on the outside and 2″ diameter inside screen with 1/8″ slots with an open area of 20 square inches. The 80G Filter’s 12″ diameter outside screen has an intake area of approximately 80 square inches and the 6″ diameter inside screen has an intake area of approximately 33 square inches.

Both the 40G and 80G can be ordered equipped with a check valve and can be ready to connect to your pump. The area between the two screens can be ordered filled with bulk-filter matting which has been produced from the finest raw materials and certified fish-safe by an independent bio-assay lab using standard EPA test protocols. The filtering media will provide an effective means of keeping algae and other forms of marine life out of the pumping system. In addition, the extra large inlet area reduces entrance velocities to the point that foreign matter is not picked up by the suction. Also, the large filtering area can retain a substantial amount of foreign matter before it needs service. For applications requiring greater capacity these units can be installed on a manifold. Contact us for recommendations on large capacity systems.

RECOMMENDATIONS
  1. Avoid putting excess stress on the 2″ suction connection.
  2. The Filter can be installed vertically or horizontally.
  3. If pea gravel is used as the filtering media, be sure it is larger than 3/8″ in diameter and irregularly shaped. Round pea gravel tends to fill the inlet holes and reduces capacity. Reassemble the top being careful not to overtighten the stainless steel tie rods.
  4. For best results, avoid setting unit directly on the bottom in muddy, weedy or sandy conditions. It is recommended to place on a cement block or similar object when installing. Big Foot Manufacturing can provide a filter stand for the 40G if requested.
